About the Role
The Operations Lead is the boots on the ground — the person who makes our marketplace actually work in the real world. You'll own everything that happens between a homeowner pressing "Book" and their lawn looking perfect. This is where software meets the physical world, and it's one of the most critical roles at Skape.
Based in the NYC/Long Island area, you'll be our local expert. You'll recruit and onboard top landscaping professionals, ensure consistent service quality, handle escalations, and build the operational playbook that we'll replicate as we expand to new markets.
This role is perfect for someone who's operated in the field before — whether in logistics, field services, or marketplace operations — and wants to build something from the ground up at an early-stage company.
What You'll Do
- ✦Recruit, vet, and onboard landscaping professionals in the NYC/Long Island market
- ✦Build and manage quality assurance processes including service audits, customer feedback loops, and provider ratings
- ✦Handle customer escalations and resolve service issues with urgency and empathy
- ✦Develop and optimize operational processes for scheduling, routing, and job matching
- ✦Build relationships with local landscaping businesses and independent contractors
- ✦Track operational KPIs (fill rate, response time, NPS, provider churn) and report to leadership
- ✦Create training materials and onboarding programs for new landscapers joining the platform
- ✦Serve as the template for market expansion — document everything so we can replicate your playbook
What We're Looking For
Required
- ✓3+ years in operations, logistics, or marketplace operations — ideally in home services or field services
- ✓Based in or willing to relocate to the NYC/Long Island area
- ✓Experience managing a network of independent contractors or service providers
- ✓Strong interpersonal skills — you can build trust with a 60-year-old landscaper and a 25-year-old homeowner equally
- ✓Comfort with ambiguity and building processes from scratch in a fast-paced startup environment
- ✓Valid driver's license and willingness to be in the field regularly
Nice to Have
- ★Experience at a marketplace company (Uber, Handy, Thumbtack, TaskRabbit, etc.)
- ★Knowledge of the landscaping or home services industry
- ★Bilingual English/Spanish is a major plus given our provider demographics
- ★Experience with CRM tools, scheduling software, or operations management platforms
